Niny Salem is a creative artist based in Minneapolis. Her artist soul originates from a rich and diverse upbringing in Southeast Asia and Europe before coming to America and calling Minnesota her home.
Niny has a natural knack for jazz and international music that captivates audiences worldwide. Her charismatic soulful singing style, and clever phrasing, engages and speaks to the hearts of her audiences. Niny’s life experiences from four different continents brings her an understanding and love of different cultures, style of music, and languages when she performs. She is best known for singing in multiple foreign languages including Spanish, Portuguese and French.
Though Niny started performing late in life, she has connected and has sung with many talented and award winning musicians locally, nationally and globally. Musicians such as Oscar Rivers who is featured in An Encyclopedia of South Carolina Jazz and Blues Musicians as Charleston’s Jazz Patriarch, and many others.
As a versatile vocalist she is able to travel widely and pair up with musicians and performers who specialize in different genres of music. You can find her as a lead solo at one of the nation’s best speakeasy’s, doing a duet at a classic urban venue, or serving as back-up at a popular dance club.
Niny’s singing career has allowed her to fuel her passion of storytelling in songs. Singing is her lifelong dream and she is thrilled to be able to do it everywhere she goes.
Before singing professionally, Niny was known for her bold and influential design work in fashion as well as her astute ability to sell in Corporate America. As a young woman, she was an award-winning painter.
In her spare time, she is hosting elaborate dinner parties, traveling, working out, enjoying locally-sourced coffee, volunteering, serving up scoops of happiness at a local ice cream shop, and spending time with loved ones.
